Celebrating your strength. Growing up in fundamentalism is an all-encompassing crash course in dissociation, and it takes enormous energy and courage to reach escape velocity and find your true self in a new paradigm. Wishing you peace and joy in your homecoming.

"You think more clearly. You feel more present. You laugh differently. You make decisions from a different place, because the decisions are actually yours now, made by a person who knows herself, rather than made by a person performing someone she’s been told to be." Welcome home.

You have a beautiful way with words Elise. I don't know the particular pain you share here but I know the pain of always parsing your words and carefully considering the implications before saying it. I relate to a life shaped by religious beliefs you never had a choice to believe as they were the water you swam in, the air you breathed. I relate to the grief of decades of doing the things everyone else demanded. I relate to the grief of not quite being sure where you begin and the controls ends. I'm so glad you have come home to yourself and come out as queer. It continues to the the reason people alienate and hurt others from a place of self-righteousness. And yet you have found yourself and expressed yourself in a moving and beautifully articulate way. I'm so glad to know. You are a beautiful woman who has influenced my life for the better. I hope the next decade of your life unfolds like a bloom.
